Book Scanning

Our full service scanning bureau incorporates industry leading book scanning technology for the rapid and high quality scanning of bound volumes. The scanners we have deployed are specially designed to capture images from bound volumes facing up which eliminates the need to unbind them. For very old books and delicate material we use special book cradles which ensure that the spine of the book is not harmed during the scanning process.

These scanners can scan a variety of sizes up to A3 and can output scanned images in a number of formats including PDF, JPEG, PNG, etc. The scanned images can also be produced in preservation quality black and white, grayscale or full colour.

We have a specialist team who are highly experienced and dedicated to scanning bound volumes. These operatives are trained in fragile material handling to ensure precious collections are protected and handled in the correct manner throughout the scanning process. The same care and professional treatment is applied to every book put through our scanning process.

After scanning and quality control, we can process each scanned image through our highly accurate optical character recognition (OCR) software, which reads and recognises each typed word and character to allow full text retrieval.

Over the course of the last twelve years we have encountered numerous types of bound volumes and have built up a wealth of experience delivering these projects to the satisfaction our of clients'.
