Book Scanning

Our full service scanning bureau incorporates industry leading book scanning technology for the rapid and high quality scanning of bound volumes. The scanners we have deployed are specially designed to capture images from bound volumes facing up which eliminates the need to unbind them. For very old books and delicate material we use special book cradles which ensure that the spine of the book is not harmed during the scanning process.

Our Tech

Powering our bound scanning service are a number of industry leading overhead book scanners that capture high quality images in a number of digital formats including PDF, JPEG and TIFF. We can scan a variety of sizes up to A1 and can output scanned images in preservation quality black and white, grayscale or full colour.

ImageAccess Bookeye

The Bookeye is perfect for delicate material as it is equipped with a ‘V-Shaped Book Holder’ that supports fragile books during the scanning process, therefore they do not need to be opened flat.

Zeutschel OS 12000 A1

The Zeutschel is an overhead tabletop scanner for books, newspapers and large-format documents up to size A1. The LED illumination is activated during scans to ensure precise images regardless of ambient light.

Treventus ScanRobot® 2.0 MDS

The Treventus is designed for high
speed digitisation of bound
material. A central capturing unit
uses a vacuum to lift and scan one
page at a time.

We have a specialist team who are highly experienced and dedicated to scanning bound volumes. These operatives are trained in fragile material handling to ensure precious collections are protected and handled in the correct manner throughout the scanning process. The same care and professional treatment is applied to every book put through our scanning process.

After scanning and quality control, we can process each scanned image through our highly accurate optical character recognition (OCR) software, which reads and recognises each typed word and character to allow full text retrieval.

Over the course of the last seventeen years we have encountered numerous types of bound volumes and have built up a wealth of experience delivering these projects to the satisfaction our of clients'.
